On July 20, 2026, a new U.S. Presidential Proclamation under Section 338 announced a proposed 50% import tariff on Canadian goods, including artisan furniture, scheduled to take effect on August 19, 2026.

We want to reassure our community upfront: Kootenay Beds is strong, stable, and absolutely staying in business. Half of our workshop's production supplies our local Canadian market, meaning our craftsman schedules and business foundations are completely secure.

We believe custom, sustainably crafted furniture should not be penalized by sudden international trade disputes. Trade networks and legal coalitions are actively filing court injunctions to challenge the validity of this century-old statute. This 50% tariff is only valid if it successfully survives these legal challenges and becomes active law on August 19.

When you place your order today, your production slot is locked in at our current pricing. Your deposit secures your raw lumber and ensures your place in our woodworking queue.

If your bed is completed while the 50% tariff is actively being enforced at the border, you do not have to pay the U.S. government a single penny. We will either hold your order or safely store your completed bed in our warehouse entirely free of charge. We will hold the shipment until the trade dispute is resolved, a negotiated settlement is reached, or the courts strike down the proclamation.
